Virtual Collaboration System

Thales Research and Technology (TRT) within Thales is tasked with developing and providing a platform for innovation and knowledge sharing within the group and the development of key technology. The company set up a Virtual Collaborations Solutions (VCS) group to look at the area of remote collaborative working.

The resultant research led to the development of a number of novel technologies within a unit which creates a visual, interactive ‘real-world’ meeting situation. This unit has the potential to eliminate travel costs/time and also reduce the impact on the environment that can be associated with travel.

The device consists of an A0 interactive tablet workspace that displays real-time ‘live’ documents with users on associated desks at other locations. Both parties can fully interact and edit these items whilst also communicate and interact with large-screen video conference facilities.
