The NHS estimates that there are around 13 million people who are currently peri or menopausal in the UK, experiencing a significant impact to their health, wellbeing, work and relationships. Symptoms can include hot flushes, irregular periods, night sweats, a reduced sex drive, low mood, anxiety, poor cognitive performance and disrupted sleep.
Despite the prevalence of these symptoms, discussing menopause still carries a stigma in many circles, often leading sufferers to navigate this condition in solitude. The impact on mental health can be profound, worrisome, and isolating.

A groundbreaking study by the Mayo Clinic in 2023 revealed an annual loss of $26.6 billion in productivity in the US and $150 billion globally as women took time out, days off or prematurely left their jobs due to insufficient support.
Identifying the Need for Personalised Solutions
We recognise that to develop appropriate, useful and valuable concepts, we need to spend time trying to gain a deep understanding of needs. We conducted widespread secondary research, exploring existing academic, medical and social sources; making sure to include data from different geographies to get a wider understanding of varying cultural approaches to the topic. What we found was that there are very few personalised approaches to measuring or managing menopausal symptoms beyond Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

We talked to perimenopausal and post-menopausal women in the UK and abroad to understand their experience first-hand, discussed their preconceptions, and how those compared with their actual experiences. We learned about the effects of their symptoms on a day-to-day basis and the steps they currently take to alleviate them.
Empowering Women with Me.
We arrived at a product that uses a wearable micro-needle patch with ingrained sensors to enable continuous monitoring of hormone levels. This allows users an unprecedented ability to understand their hormones and manage their symptoms, creating an opportunity for more targeted and accurate HRT doses and other medical actions.

Me. can be worn for four hours and can be easily covered under clothing. It works with an integrated app which provides reliable information and support, as well as a safe space for users to connect with other wearers. This in turn can open the door to open conversation amongst friends, family and peers.
Me. was designed to minimise impact to the environment with components that are easily separated for recycling and card-based packaging.
Me. has recently won a prestigious iF Design Award for 2025.
