Meet the team: Mengting Cheng
We’re happy to announce our new Business Development Officer, Mengting Cheng. Mengting recently attained an MSc in Marketing at Cardiff University, having previously spent over four years working in corporate business management in Guangzhou, China. As is customary at PDR, we asked Mengting some questions to better understand her and her new role.
How have you found working at PDR so far?
Friendly, unique, humorous, and professional are my first impressions of PDR. I actually found it quite easy to remember everyone’s names in the first week—each colleague brings their own expertise and memorable personality.
My first few weeks have been great; my tasks were introduced in an organized way. The support from colleagues and managers has made my transition smooth and enjoyable, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team.
What appealed about the Business Development Officer role?
The Business Development Officer role caught my eye because it’s a great mix of strategic thinking and relationship-building. I was excited about the chance to work with diverse teams and explore new opportunities, especially in the fascinating area of medical product design.
Plus, the role lets me dive into market analysis, client engagement, and project management—things I’ve been interested in since my university days. It’s a perfect fit for what I enjoy.
What are you looking forward to over the coming months?
I’m really excited to attend some upcoming exhibitions including our trip to Medica in November. We'll be heading to Düsseldorf, Germany, where we’ll meet with a variety of companies, including potential clients and existing partners. I believe this trip will have a positive impact on our business and open up new opportunities.
At the same time, I’m looking forward to learning more and supporting our efforts to bring in more partners.
What do you like to get up to outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and diving into new interests. I practice Muay Thai (just for fun, not professionally), which is a great way to get some cardio and de-stress (and legally hit people).
I also love playing all sorts of racket sports, a passion that’s part of the culture I grew up with. Traveling is a big hobby of mine, and I’m also into photography. I’m always ready to capture moments with my Fuji camera. Plus, I enjoy exploring Cardiff’s restaurant scene, constantly on the hunt for new and exciting food.
