Meet our new Design Consultant, Will Pargeter

We are excited to introduce our newest recruit, Will Pargeter, who joins us as a Design Consultant at PDR. Will has only been with us for two months and has already become integral to the team as he works on various PDR projects. Design Consultants play a significant role in developing ideas for a product that integrates form, functionality, and aesthetics, so we are pleased to have him join our growing team!

To find out precisely what a Design Consultant does and why his role at PDR is vital, we sat down with Will for a quick-fire round of questions.

“I prefer the collaborative aspect and having a big team around you - being able to work on lots of big projects that you get in consultancy compared to in-house; so, I was very excited to see that PDR were recruiting,” Will explains.

Before joining us, Will (originally from Cambridgeshire) was working as a part of an in-house design team for a company that focused on medical devices. So, not only was the PDR role appealing to Will, but he also now gets to enjoy the short commute he has to work; this gives him the opportunity to cycle home and walk the dog during his lunch break – the best of both worlds!

Will’s daily role is very hands-on, “It consists of designing things on the computer, building things in the workshop and testing the things you’ve built,” all of which initially appealed to him about the role.

Will gives us an insight into a project he is currently involved in, “There are lots of people involved in designing this console… there are a few different concepts, and we are currently making prototypes to see what will work best in the hands of users, in preparation for it to be refined and sent to production”.

Considering the team and culture, he says, “Everyone is really friendly! Typically, you get the idea that there are colleagues and there are friends, but at PDR you can be friends with these people as well – it’s not like they are just being nice to you as they have to see you every day.”

When Will is not working, he enjoys being active and taking the time to have some well-deserved rest in preparation for the week ahead. “I like to go on really long walks with my dog somewhere in the mountains. Although I often cram too much stuff into my weekends, I’ll get to Monday not feeling very rested! So, a balance of the two hits that sweet spot for the ideal weekend.”

Finally, his hidden talent (that the PDR team were unaware of), “I’ve been doing free-running and parkour since about 2016,” Will admits. “I’ve taken up rock climbing recently, much more seriously – I do caving, all those sorts of things!” He has also been singing in chapel choirs since he was a child, “I sing at Llandaff Cathedral sometimes” – A man of many hidden talents!

Will also has a particular interest in combat robotics, “There are informal, live events that happen, and I compete in the Beetleweight category; which I’ve been doing since 2021,” Will explains. “Someone posted about an event, it was the first one back after the Pandemic, and I signed up for that, and now it’s a thing I do!”

All of us at PDR would like to welcome Will to the team officially - it’s great to have you with us!
